(tick) Please note that AsdeqDocs Server and AsdeqDocs/AsdeqForms clients can be updated independently of each other.

Note

Note that if upgrading a server prior to version 3.4, the server must first be upgraded to v3.4 before upgrading to the latest version. Please see the instructions in Updating AsdeqDocs server versions.

If you are currently using Windows Integrated Authentication to connect to SQL Server on a version prior to 5.2, please see the upgrade instructions in Windows Integrated Authentication in SQL Server.

What's New in Version 6.1

Version 6.1 brings:

  1. Flexible new integration options to databases, Salesforce & MDMs
  2. Powerful new form authoring capabilities
  3. New AsdeqServer management tools

1. New Integration Options

Form Editor Datasource Support

The form editor now includes a full user interface for creating and manipulating datasources, which are used to provide reference data to forms.

They may be used to create options on dropdown, radio button, segmented, and list view (autocomplete) controls and to create repeating section in HTML controls.

Datasources may be created from JSON, CSV (Comma Separated Values), TSV (Tab Separated Values) and OData resources.

The datasource editor also allows creating hierarchical datasources from either JSON or CSV. This allows a tree of data to be defined that can be used to populate cascading dropdowns.

See the knowledge base documentation for all the details: Datasources.

Database Integration

  • Server functions now have access to a simple API to query and update databases, which allows forms to consume and populate databases.
  • Out of the box the AsdeqServer provides native support for SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL, IBM DB2 and IBM Informix.
  • See Integrating with Databases via JDBC for documentation.

Salesforce Integration

  • Server functions can now easily authenticate with Salesforce APIs using OAuth2, allowing form reference data to be used from Salesforce entities, and form data to be pushed to Salesforce.
  • See Integration with Salesforce and Force.com for details.

Dynamics 365 Integration

  • AsdeqServer now supports OData v4 as a source location, and server functions can authenticate with Dynamics 365, allowing data to be used in AsdeqForms.
  • See Integration with Dynamics 365 for details.

Other Server Function Improvements

  • Work in progress on server function scripts is now automatically saved as a draft which can be restored if you close the page without saving
  • The user interface has been improved
  • The history of server function runs is now available in a tab, as server function runs are managed by the Job Management framework
  • Server functions now have access to a simple API to save state across invocations

AppConfig MDM Support

  • AsdeqForms and AsdeqDocs now support configuring the AsdeqServer url via application configuration for MDM which support it, such as AirWatch.
  • See AppConfig Based MDM Integration for more details.

2. New Form Editor Features

New Editor Controls

We've added a number of new controls to the form palette:

Number: a number field with support for formatting
Currency: A monetary amount with support for display formatting
Email: a validated email address
Password: hidden text field
Rich Text: Allows formatted text and fields (see below)
Table: Allows creating tables with text and data (see below)
Data Table: Allows creating data driven rable (see below)
Camera: A variation of the file control prompting the user to take a photo

Rich Text Control

The form editor contains a new rich text control, which allows adding formatted content to a form.

The content can be edited either in the built in rich text editor, or in a new HTML editor which provides syntax highlighting and code complete for HTML.

As well as simple static content, the rich text editor has some powerful dynamic capabilities, that making displaying data from the form simple.

Insert Fields

  • The insert field tool allows inserting the value of any form control into the text.
  • For numbers, dates and currency the values will be formatted according to the control properties.

Tables

  • You can insert either a free form table, or a data table.
  • A free form table allows you to set the number of rows and columns you need, and add any text or fields into them. This is ideal for creating summary tables.
  • A data table takes a datasource or a master-detail control as it's data, and creates rows from the data.
  • The tables are automatically responsive - on a small screen they will layout in a single column.

Improved Options Dialog

  • We've improved the dialog for setting the options on the Dropdown, Radio Buttons and List view controls.
  • The dialog now has four tabs, allowing the options to come from a simple list, a datasource, copy from another control, or cascade from another control.

Cascading Dropdowns

  • A dropdown which sets its options based on another dropdown is a very common requirement in complex forms.
  • You can now build cascading dropdowns with no scripts or expressions by setting up a hierarchical datasource, hooking it up to a dropdown, and then cascading other dropdowns from it.

New Manage Resources Dialog

  • The form editor includes a new dialog which allows you to add and remove form resource files from within the editor.
  • The same dialog is now opened when you drag an image onto the form - to add and select the image.

3. New AsdeqServer Management Tools

Form Management Screen Improvements

  • The Manage AsdeqForms screen has simplified and has improved usability
  • You can now specify that forms can be deleted a certain amount of time after they are submitted
  • There is a new option to Duplicate a form
  • Submissions are no longer listed in this screen, this has been replaced with links to the list of Submitted and Draft forms in the forms web application

Export Improvements

  • Export configuration has been simplified for the simple case. An advanced popover allows configuration of export file types and which states will export.
  • Forms are now exported using Chrome Headless by default (previously PhantomJS), giving better fidelity in PDF exports.
  • This means that EcmaScript 6 (ES6) syntax is now supported across all platforms, meaning user scripts can use arrow function syntax, for-of, and all of the other ES6 improvements.

Job Management

  • AsdeqServer contains a new Job Management screen, which allows you to view and manage the execution of asynchronous jobs in the system
  • It shows jobs which run on a schedule or based on events, and is useful for monitoring and diagnosing problems with Server Functions, form processing and workflow, and form exports
  • It can list the history of a particular job type or entity, and viewing it's log, and allows re-running failed jobs
  • There are links from the AsdeqForms web application to view the jobs of a particular form library, or form instance

Other Improvements

  • The uniqueness of users, groups and devices are now enforced. This prevents previous issues where these might get doubled up in some circumstances.
  • Mandatory libraries are now prioritised when downloading metadata and files to all clients.
  • The OData source location now supports the OData v4 format
  • The Weblinks (Rest) source location has an improved user interface and now allows setting the filename and content type of each URL.
  • Many bug fixes and performance improvements.
