What's New in Version 5.3

AsdeqForms for Android

Version 5.3 brings the simplicity and power of AsdeqForms to Android phones and tablets.

Users of the other platforms will be familiar with the menu structure and the look and feel of the Android client.

The Android version supports all of the same controls and features of the iOS and web version of AsdeqForms, and contains exactly the same form engine.

This means that you can develop sophisticated and dynamic business forms and run them across iOS, Android and desktop devices without the cost and risk of native development.

AsdeqForms for Android runs on Android 4.4 and greater.

Support for Portfolio PDFs

AsdeqDocs for iOS now supports opening Portfolio PDFs, which are collections of individual documents inside a single PDF file.

Address Search and Reverse Geocode

The Geolocation capability of AsdeqForms has been improved so that address searches, autocomplete and reverse geocoding are now available on all platforms (iOS, Android and Web) without the use of a third party service.

On the web platform up to date GNAF data is used to autocomplete addresses. On iOS and Android the native geolocation capabilities are used.

Improved Forms REST API and Reporting

AsdeqForms for Web has been built from the ground up to use a REST API which is documented and available.

In version 5.3 the API has been improved to allow better access to form data, which enable integrations like Tableau and Power BI below. For more details please see the AsdeqForms Service API page for documentation on the API.

Tableau Integration

The REST API can be now be used in Tableau to create live visual analytics. See Data Visualization with Tableau.

Microsoft Power BI Integration

The improved REST API allows direct integration with Microsoft Power BI. We've written up a tutorial of how to publish data visualizations with Power BI:  Data Visualization with Power BI.

Microsoft Flow Integration

AsdeqForms and Microsoft Flow can work together to integrate with many third party systems. We've added a tutorial of how to get started: Microsoft Flow.

Back End Integration by Improved Server Side Scripts

The server side scripting capability has been extended so that scripts can now be triggered by events, or run on a schedule. The available options have been moved to a new tab:

The FormProcessingEvent allows forms to listen for forms being submitted, and post them to third part systems via REST calls, using a built in helper.

The javascript script editor now gives code complete suggestions for available server components, and the built in globals such as event and http:

Talk to AsdeqLabs is you have a customisation requirement that we can help with, and check out the Server Plugins and Scripts Documentation.

Other Improvements

  • The AsdeqForms web app will now ask if you want to install the iOS client if you open the web pages on an iPad or iPhone
  • AsdeqForms now uses the WKWebView control rather than UIWebView, on iOS devices. This means faster form load times and better performance in general.
  • Updates to the bundled Java and Tomcat versions
  • Many bug fixes and performance improvements. In particular form submission and searching has been dramatically improved.
